About
What HotGPSDeals.com can do for you
This site is designed to help you choose the right GPS receiver. There are a ton of makes and models out there. GPS devices range in price from less than $200 to over $1,000. They all have electronic maps that show you where you are, but beyond that, the GPS receivers on the market have a bewildering array of useful features you might want. Deciding on the right GPS receiver, however, is more difficult even than buying the perfect car.
I’m a sort of a self-educated GPS techno-nerd, and I’ve spent countless hours pouring over technical specifications, reading reviews, and playing with various devices. I built this site to help you take advantage of all the work that I’ve done. Here, you will find complete product descriptions, reviews, ratings and comparisons to help you decide on the right GPS system.
How To Use This Site
Below the header (above) you’ll find links to complete lists of Garmin, Magellan, and Tom Tom products. Click on any of those links and you’ll be taken to a page with complete descriptions of various models.
This site has a blog, which contains up to the minute information about products, reviews, comparisons, and deals that will give you the information you need and save you money.
Use the Search window, located at the top right-hand corner, to find specific models. Just type the name of the model in and hit ENTER and you’ll be taken to the right page.
Amazon
If you click on any photo or link, you’ll be taken to the Amazon page that describes the specific system you’re looking for. I chose Amazon for my product provider because I have bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from them for years, and I love their customer service. Amazon is a trusted business partner, a place where you can feel secure about spending your money.
Finally
I hope this site helps you. Frankly, I wish I had had it as a resource when I bought my first GPS device.

I’ma newbie at these nav systems and I admit I’m basically cheap. I don’t mind spending the money if it does what I want but I don’t have that experience yet.
My sole experience is with a cheap Mia model that was given to me. The problem came when I wanted to go a different route than it did. With all the instructions, I couldn’t seem to stop it from telling me to take the next right and turn around back 150 miles to our starting place. It would say “recalculating” but it only had one answer.
Are there models that when you switch off their preferred route will recalculate to the destination from the new location?
Hi Chris,
If I understand your question, you want the GPS device to recalculate a new route from where you currently are, even if that is off of the previously calculated route.
For a cheaper model, you should take a look at the Garmin nuvi 200. Right now, Amazon is selling it for less than $200, which is a real deal compared with prices only a few months ago.
A friend of mine recently bought one of these. She’s new to the area and is constantly taking wrong turns. She loves how the nuvi 200 just starts from where ever she happens to be and recalculates a new route.
Hope that answers your question!
Garmin makes a great, top of the line product.
are some of the gps units capable of being used to navigate around town (i.e. NYC for example) on foot? being able to see some sights using one would be a plus. thanks for any help
Hi Tom!
Any of the smaller units will do this. This is one reason I like the Garmin nuvi line. They’re so small, you can unclip them from your car, put them in your pocket and go.
Hope that helps.
